Travelling to Zurich

Zürich is very well linked by air and train to European and non-European destinations. We recommend not to come by car – it is difficult to find affordable parking and traffic in town is generally quite heavy.

Before the conference, participants will get an e-mail with a personalized public transport ticket valid from Sunday through Wednesday and including the central zone 110 as well as the airport zone 121 (see further information on public transport and schedules on www.zvv.ch). The ticket is valid for trains, tramways, buses and funiculars and also allows for purchasing boat tickets at a reduced fare.

The airport is at only 10 minutes of distance by train to the city centre (this is faster than by taxi and much cheaper); the university and the venue is only some minutes away from the Main Station (see graphic below).

There are also tramways from the airport to the centre (line 10). The train station is right under the airport; you can take any train to “Zürich HB – Hauptbahnhof”.

Travel times from major European cities

How to reach the University from the Airport

There are excellent train connections from the airport to Zurich main train station (Hauptbahnhof)

How to reach the University main building (KOL) from the train station (Hauptbahnhof)

From the train station, tram number 6 takes you to the main builing (KOL). Alight at the tram stop 'Platte'. You can also walk the entire distance (uphill, 10-15 minutes). If you want to walk but skip the steep part you can take the historic 'Polybahn' cable car.

How to reach the University by car

Zurich is well connected by motorway. We recommend to park the car at 'University Zurich Irchel' parking garage and continue by tram, as there is no affordable long term parking in the city centre.
